Good morning everyone
This morning we would have been in our normal school assembly however due to the precautions that we need to take around the coronavirus or COVID-19, we are unable to do our assembly this morning. So, with the help with the media class, I thought I’d talk to you in this different way.
In terms of the corona virus we’ve needed to cancel a number of our school events.
These include all school sport has now been cancelled until further notice. A lot of our excursions have also been cancelled and a lot of school events have also been cancelled.
And they include our school assemblies and year assemblies;
- Breakfast Club;
- Athletics Carnival;
- Parent/Teacher night;
- And both the Year 8 and 9 camps for next term.
It’s very important that you all remember at this time that the school is still open, and our classes are still running as normal.
I have received no advice at this point that the school will close. During this time while you’re at school there are a few things I need you to be aware of and to do. You will see around the school and in the toilets, this poster. It reminds us what we need to do to help stop the spread of the virus. Primarily, we all need to remember to wash our hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Apparently, if you sing “Happy Birthday” twice, while you’re washing your hands, you’ve got about the right time.
You’ll have also heard the term ‘social distancing’. This simply means that we need to remember to keep about a metre of space between us when we’re together.
Also, if you are feeling unwell it’s important to talk to your parents and stay home from school at this time. With all that is going on, I don’t want you to forget just how important your learning still is. All of the teachers met last night, and they were talking about ways in which we can help continue your learning if it’s necessary if you have to stay home from school. Firstly, they’ll be making sure this week that you’re up to date with your Google Classrooms and then we’ll send some more information home about how we’re going to do that. You guys have been handling this situation incredibly maturely and calmly up until now, well done. Keep it up. Thank you.
