School Uniform


At Belconnen High School it is the policy of the School and the Community that all students wear the prescribed school uniform. The uniform promotes easy recognition and student safety.  Wearing the school uniform demonstrates a sense of pride for the School and our local community.

Within our approved school uniform there is a formal option and an more casual option. Students may wear any of the approved uniform items however, on a daily basis the majority of students choose to wear the school polo shirt and hoodie with plain black shorts, tracksuit pants or the school skirt.

Belconnen High School uniform display: 1. Black hoodie with red shoulder accents. 2. Black and red polo shirt with dark grey shorts. 3. Black half-zip fleece over a white shirt with black shorts. 4. Black zip-up jacket over a white shirt with a red and black pleated plaid skirt.


Belconnen High School Dress Standards and Uniform

Shirt
  • White short sleeve with red piping with school logo embroidered on pocket.
  • Black/red with BHS logo embroidered on chest. This can be also worn during PE lessons and sports carnivals.
  • Year 10 polo shirt or school approved specialty shirt
Pants/Shorts
  • Plain black pants/shorts/tracksuit pants
  • Grey/Black dress pants and shorts with BHS logo
Skirt
  • Black and red check must be of an acceptable length - mid-thigh/longer than the fingertips of the student with arms by their side.
Jumpers/Jacket
  • Black polar fleece jumper with BHS logo
  • Black zip jacket with BHS logo
  • Black/Red hoodie with BHS logo
  • Year 10 hoodie or other school approved speciality jumper or jacket
Shoes
  • Fully enclosed shoes
Shoes for practical classes such as Arts, Technology and Science classes.

To ensure the safety of our students during practical activities, we strictly adhere to the ACT Education Directorate's Work Health and Safety (WHS) footwear policy.

The following shoes must not be worn in practical areas due to the risk of injury from spills, heavy objects, or sharp tools:

  • Thongs or open-type sandals.
  • Canvas shoes.
  • Any footwear that leaves the top of the foot exposed.

To participate in practical lessons, students must wear shoes that provide maximum protection. Required features include:

  • Fully enclosed design (covers the entire foot).
  • Sturdy, non-slip soles.
  • Firm leather uppers (including a leather tongue).

These requirements are in place to protect students from hot liquids, molten metals, and falling heavy or sharp equipment. Students without appropriate footwear will be unable to participate in practical activities for their own safety.

Optional
  • White plain T-shirt or skivvy may be worn under shirts and blouses
  • Hat - A plain black or black/red bucket hat or black/red cap
School Events and Excursions
  • School Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics Carnival days students are welcome to dress in house colours which are Blue, Green, Red and Yellow.
  • Students must always wear uniform when on an excursion or representing the school unless stipulated by the organising teacher.
  • Full School uniform must be worn for End of Semester Awards assemblies and  Year 10 Graduation.
Jewellery
  • Must be kept to a minimum and must present no risk to the owner or any other student.

P&C Second Hand School Uniform Shop

Our Parents and Carers Association runs a second-hand shop every Friday from 8:30 am to 9:00 am via the Student Services entrance. With prices ranging from $5 to $15 (card only).

The Uniform shop is always looking for donations, especially hoodies, polos, and skirts. If you have items to spare, please bring them to the front office between 8:30 am and 3:00 pm.
