Domestic Violence Crisis Service (DVCS). Support to help people live free from Domestic Violence. Crisis Intervention, Legal Support & Advocacy, Support Programs, Safety Planning, Advice & Information.

Child and Youth Protection Services (CYPS) has a statutory responsibility to support children, young people and families requiring a care or justice response. First point to call if it suspected a
family member is abusing or neglecting a child.

Canberra Rape Crisis Centre. Confidential counselling and advocacy for women and children who have experience any form of sexual violence recently or in the past, and their supporters.

1800 Respect. Confidential information, counselling and support service for those impacted by sexual assault, domestic of family violence and abuse.

Lifeline. 24 Hour Crisis Line offering mental health crisis support.

Access Mental Health (Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team). Access Mental Health is the central point of entry to access mental health services and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They will provide immediate support during a mental health crisis.

Onelink

  • Provides information and connections for support services in the ACT, including services for families and young people, and services for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • is a central intake and assessment service. This means that it assesses all requests for support(accommodation and services) and does not turn eligible people away. It then prioritises people according to their needs, refers immediately where possible or places them on an active waiting list.
  • does not provide direct client support–it assesses and records a person’s needs, maintains engagement through active holding and connects people to the supports they require.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services

Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services is an Aboriginal community controlled primary health care service operated by the Aboriginal community in the ACT. Clinical services and programs offered at Winnunga include General Practitioners, Dentistry, Audiologists, Midwifery, Allied Health, Practice Nurses,

Aboriginal Health Workers, Counselling, Mental Health Support, carer support, transport service, a home maintenance program, Youth diversion program, healthy lifestyle advice and support, and exercise programs. In addition, Winnunga runs a range of health promotion campaigns and community activities.

Carers

Carers ACT is a not-for-profit organisation and the peak body for carers in the ACT. Its purpose is to support, connect and empower carers to maintain their caring role and personal wellbeing by providing support over the phone, via email or online.

Anglicare Cyclops Program supports young people, up to 25 years old who care for a family member experiencing a physical or intellectual disability, mental health issues, alcohol and other drug related issues and/or chronic illness.

ReachOut - is Australia’s leading online mental health organisation for young people and their parents. They provide practical support, tools and tips help young people get through anything from everyday issues to tough times. They also help parents with their teenagers.

SANE Australia - is a national mental health charity making a real difference in the lives of people affected by complex mental health issues through support, research and advocacy.

The Junction Youth Health Centre. Free primary health care and support services for young people aged 12-25. Can access; GP, Nurses, Smoking Cessation Support, Case Management and Youth Worker Support.

Marymead CatholicCare Accommodation & Support Services, Aged Care, Alcohol & Drugs, Counselling, Family Support, Foster Care, Homelessness, Mental Health, Disability & NDIS, Property, and Youth Services.

Menslink (male specific support) provide youth mentoring, youth counselling, school visits and education.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) provides assessment and treatment for children and young people under 18 years who are experiencing mental health problems. CAMHS is a secondary referral service. This means that all consumers need to have been assessed by a G.P, school counsellor or other health professional prior to contacting CAMHS for assessment.

Police Community Youth Club (PCYC) offer a range of community programs in Canberra including but not limited to; Case management services, parenting programs, recreational based early intervention programs, youth crime diversion programs, anger management programs, mentoring as well as in school programs.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS can provide all people with disability with information and connections to services in their communities such as doctors, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools as well as information about what support is provided by each state and territory government. NDIS can provide funding and support for participants who have permanent and significant disability.

Ted Noffs Foundation provides residential and non-residential treatment as well as counselling and engagement for young people (12 – 25 years old) involved with drug and youth crime related issues. It is Australia’s leading non-profit tackling addiction and youth crime.

Directions ACT - Directions Health Services provides treatment and support to people and concerned others impacted by alcohol, drugs and other addictions. Treatment and support programmes can be individual or group.

Family/Relationships Support

Conflict Resolution Service is a registered not-for-profit Organisation that has been supporting the Canberra Region in Dispute Resolution Services for over 30 years. Professional services include: Family dispute resolution, community mediation, crisis mediation to prevent youth homelessness, conflict coaching for families and individuals, community education, workplace consultations and training and professional development for individuals and organisations.

Parentline offers free telephone and face to face confidential counselling services to parents and carers as well as hosting courses and providing resources for raising positive families.

LGBTIQA+ Student Support

A Gender Agenda A Gender Agenda aims to support the goals and needs of the intersex, transgender and gender diverse communities of Canberra and the surrounding region. Through education, advocacy, peer support and professional networks they connect people to each other and build off the wisdom of collective experiences.

Diversity ACT is a community based, registered charity run by volunteers that provide a service hub, social worker, support networks, groups and community resources to assist the LGBTIQ+ community of the ACT Region.
